Studio Barker is led by Joel Barker and Hannah Pannell, founders and lead designers with a shared love of gardens shaped by rural childhoods and years spent outdoors.
After more than a decade leading See Design Studio, one of Fremantle’s respected landscape architecture practices, Studio Barker allows them to return to a more personal scale of work: the private garden.
Their approach combines design rigour with intuition, patience and care.
Together, Joel and Hannah create gardens that feel settled, enduring and deeply connected to the lives lived within them.
approach
We approach each garden as a living extension of the home, shaped by its architecture, setting and the people who use it. Our work begins with careful observation of aspect, soil, light, movement and the daily rituals that give a garden purpose. From there we compose planting, material and form with restraint and intent, allowing every element to feel settled, natural and enduring. Endemic, native and Mediterranean species are paired with hand selected materials to create gardens that belong to their place and slowly become more beautiful with time, use, life and season.
